I’m getting the feeling my future life could be similar in that respect. Both Alice and Getsby have loads of traveling under their belts, living and working in a new country every couple years. Their apartment was one of the nicest apartments I’ve ever been in, and by far, the best decorated. They were all so warm and welcoming and a true testament to how great the CS community really is. Oh well…next time.īut as for my first solo Couchsurfing experience: Exceptional!! Although, I really wish I had more than the two-ish hours of even seeing Alice, her boyfriend Getsby, and roommate Sam. I was really hoping to go to the top of it, but plans change with the weather. I saw this segment on the Discovery channel a couple months ago about this incredible piece of architecture and I knew I had to see it! The three segment hotel places a park, infinity pool, and bar on this long island on TOP of the building. I was so excited to get to Singapore and meet my Couchsurfing host, and to see the amazing Marina Bay Sands hotel and skypark. Have I mentioned before that I bring bad weather wherever I go? Apparently I did poor research, and I thought this time of year was the driest time in SE Asia.

This weekend, I talked with a couple friends that made me ache to get back asap, but after having dinner with a couple of my closest Korean friends, it made me realize I need to appreciate the time I have left here and really be in present with them. So I’m alone but not too lonely, but don’t get me wrong as I’m still missing many people IMMENSELY! The countdown has pretty much started as to when I’ll be returning to US soil, and though I’m not certain as to an exact date yet…Wisco people can expect an appearance mid-June (if not a bit sooner). So because of that, I’ve been fairly content with my free-spirited, single lifestyle. Enjoy being single while you still can!” It actual terrifies me how serious some of these advice-givers are. I didn’t really have too many married friends back home, so I’m not sure if it’s a fair comparison, but since I’ve been here and have LOTS of married students/friends, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been told, “Tami, don’t ever get married. Black Day is specifically for All the Single Ladies (and Men) to celebrate their singleness by getting together and eatting jajangmyeon (Chinese noodle dish with black sauce). It’s a day that is definitely missing from the American calendar…and as a marketer, has the potential to be $$$. So why is Korea better? Because of April 14th…Black Day. That doesn’t seem all that fair though, right? Well when they have “White Day” on March 14th, the men repay their significant others and follow up with the same, present-bearing gesture. However, on this day, only the women give their beaus candy and gifts. Yes, they celebrate Valentine’s Day here. And because of that, we can all use it as an excuse to celebrate our own little anniversary each year, subsequently replacing the somewhat obligatory feeling of being sad and lonely if you’re without that special someone to canoodle with.Īnother reason not to dwell today? Because Korea rocks. One great thing about this day, thanks to a 12 hour flight two years ago, when we miraculously crossed time zones between the 13th and 15th of February (Yes, that’s right…I actually slept entirely through the 14th), was that I met some of the greatest friends of my life that day. And that’s even after opening my W-M word of the day email…which appropriately, was decided as “canoodle”. Luckily, amidst being alone, I’m not feeling that awful lonely lull that usually creeps up into my soul during this frigid “holiday”.

same thing for those lonely singles out there.
